Helly Hansen has been crafting professional-grade gear to help people stay and feel alive for over 140 years, all starting from our home in Norway. In 1877, sea captain Helly Juell Hansen found a better way to protect his sailors from the harsh Norwegian elements by creating waterproof oilskin jackets, trousers, sou'westers and tarpaulins made from coarse linen soaked in linseed oil – thus launching a legendary brand.

As the apparel brand for Ski Professionals, you'll find HH at more than 200 ski resort and guiding operations around the world, and worn by more than 55,000 ski professionals. Our sailing gear is worn by world-class sailors across all five oceans, and we're a proud partner for some of the sport's most iconic regattas and sailing associations.
We continue to innovate and build upon Captain Hansen's legacy. In 1949, we introduced Helox, a revolutionary waterproof fabric featuring a thin sheet of translucent PVC plastic. In 1961, we partnered with Norwegian Fiber Pile Inc. to develop the original Fiberpile – the first fleece. Our LIFA technical baselayer, introduced in 1970, has been used by professionals on every ocean and many of the world's tallest peaks.
The 1980s saw the launch of Helly Tech, our award-winning waterproof and breathable fabric that set a new standard for performance and protection. In the late 90s, we introduced Prowool, a baselayer that combined LIFA Stay-Dry Technology with Merino wool for moisture transport and added warmth.
Footwear was added to the product line in 2004, responding to demands from professionals around the world. The Odin gear, launched in 2008, is a technically evolved collection for serious mountaineers and athletes. In 2012, we introduced the H2 Flow Technology, featuring an airflow venting system and a protective barrier to help adventurers regulate their body temperature.
Inspired by the son of Thor in Norse Mythology, the Magni line, introduced in 2015, set a new standard for protection, durability, and performance in the workplace. Our most award-winning jacket ever, the Elevation, was released in 2016, combining a new Helly Tech Professional fabric with unparalleled breathability, protection and our innovative H2Flow temperature regulating system.
In 2017, we commemorated our 140th anniversary with The 140 Collection, featuring the key technologies of our history in retro-inspired styles. Helly Hansen continues to be the trusted choice for professionals and enthusiasts alike, staying true to our Norwegian roots and Captain Hansen's legacy of innovation.
